Valdosta State's Master of Communication Arts program is designed for students interested in making a difference through communication. The MAC program provides a clear path forward for individuals wishing to develop mastery over the strategic and leadership competencies that both contemporary business and higher education require.

Valdosta is located in the southeastern part of Georgia and offers great opportunities whether you stay in town or want to explore what the area has to offer if you are looking for something to do in your downtime. The city is positioned right off highway 75 providing easy access to Atlanta, Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tallahassee, or Orlando. Plus, there are several nature trails, national parks, and beaches all within a short distance of the city.

Will MAIC prepare me to teach at the college level?

The courses taught in the program will provide you with the knowledge required to succeed academically and professionally. There are specific courses that focus on dialogue, and reflection on teach, active learning strategies, teaching goals, and practices that today's college student needs to be successful in and out of the classroom. This program is dynamic and flexible for your individual education goals including career progression and preparation for a doctorate program. Our faculty appreciate that our students come to this program with diverse backgrounds and goals. Our goal is to support all students in achieving their chosen goals. 

What careers will MAIC prepare me for?

Valdosta State's Master of Communication Arts program helps prepare you for the abilities that are highly valued by employers as reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Some fo the qualities/skills employers look for are built in the courses offered by the program such as critical thinking/problem solving, oral/written communication, leadership, analytical/quantitative skills, and being detailed oriented just to name a few. So, whether you are looking for a promotion, career change, or you wish to start your own business the degree can help you prepare for this future.

Do I have to start the M.A. program in the fall?

Typically, students start their programs in the Fall semester, but it is possible to start in any term.

How long does it take to complete an M.A. degree?

2 years if you are going full time.

What do Communication graduate students do with their degrees?

Our students who finish their education with the M.A. typically enter employment in the private sector. Some of our recent graduates have begun work in the fields of human resources, public relations, government, and event management. Most of our Ph.D. graduates teach at colleges and universities.
